RoadTest – 2008 Touareg2

September 12th, 2008

I was driving back from picking my friend up and decided to go “look at” the new 2008 Touaregs at the VW dealer. I ended up going to a rather interesting test drive.

As i approached the dealer i could see there were people ready and waiting to greet me to their dealer. I went to the Findlay VW dealer in the valley auto mall in Henderson. I originally just wanted to look at them so we went over an looked at the V6 lower end version, called the VR6. It had the 3.6 liter six-cylinder engine, 6 speed ‘tiptronic’ gear box, black leather seats, sat nav, back up camera, single zone A/C and some other features as standard. This version also didn’t have the air suspension but it did have the 4Xmotion all-wheel-drive system. See the VW site for more info.

First Impressions:

At first I really wasn’t impressed. According to the printout on the dash, the V6 supposedly pounds out 280 HP, which wasn’t hard to believe, but then the guy I was talking too said it weighed next to 6000lbs. That three TONS for an SUV that’s just barley the size of mine which weighs only two tons. He then demonstrated some of the features such as the navigation, which didn’t work because there was no DVD and the power lift gate and other things that were less interesting. He then started the engine, which sounded too much like diesel for my liking. Think 1987 Mercedes 300D, not “bad” but not good either. I kept asking how much power it “really” put out and he decided to take me for a little drive. Read more…
